Best Neighborhoods of Salt Lake City - Part 1

Updated: Nov 8, 2022

There's no shortage of great neighborhoods to choose from in Salt Lake City. Whether you're looking for a vibrant and eclectic community, or a more laid-back and family-friendly atmosphere, there's definitely something for everyone in our salty metropolis.

There are so many awesome spaces in the SLC that I had to break this article into multiple sections. So here's the first installment of communities you've gotta to check out:

First up...Sugarhouse is one of the most unique neighborhoods in all of Salt Lake City. Sugar beets were first planted here by pioneer settlers more than 150 years ago, and since those humble beginnings this colorful enclave has sprouted into an offbeat paradise with plenty to offer no matter what your mood may be: whether you’re thirsty or hungry; looking for some good times at one big beautiful park overlooking stunning mountain views (Sugarhouse Park might just happen top our list as well: Nap in a hammock, have a family party, run, bike, walk, play some kickball with your Beehive friends...this park has it all!), there's always something new going down around these parts!

Eats & Drinks in Sugarhouse: Spitz, The Dodo, Kimi's Chop and Oyster House, Jinya Ramen Bar, Hopkins Brewing, Wasatch Brew Pub, Per Noi Trattoria, The Brickyard, Finn's Cafe, Harbor Seafood and Steak, Feldman's Deli

Parks: Sugarhouse Park, Forest Dale Golf Course, Wasatch Hollow

Home Styles: English Cottage, Brick Bungalow

Another popular choice is 9th and 9th, which is known for its charming Victorian homes and tree-lined streets. In my opinion, best described as hip, laidback, and anti-mall. The area gets it's name from it's location at the intersection of 900 South and 900 East. Located just two blocks east from Liberty Park, this neighborhood has a reputation for its local and trendy shops, restaurants, and cafes that line 900 South Street--being central to Downtown and the University of Utah and having great walkability , this community attracts everyone from upper-income families to students.

Eats & Drinks in 9th and 9th: Pago, Publik Kitchen, East Liberty Tap House, Pizza Nono, Chanon Thai Cafe, Kyoto Japanese Restaurant, Tradition, Pig & A Jelly Jar, Normal Ice Cream

Parks: Liberty Park, La Barba Breakfast Tacos,

Home Styles: Victorian, English Cottage, Bungalow

Next up - I'll cover The Avenues and Capital Hill...No matter what you're looking for in a neighborhood, Salt Lake City has something to offer.
