In Utah, the winter season is a time for celebration. The holidays are a special time when families and friends come together to enjoy each other’s company and partake in some of the best winter activities Utah has to offer. From skiing and snowboarding in the mountains to ice skating on the ponds and rivers, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Here are just a few of the many great winter / Christmas activities you can experience in Utah this year.
The Ogden Utah Christmas Village is a local favorite for holiday fun. This year, the village features larger than life light displays, over 25 different Christmas "houses" and attractions, including a nativity scene, Santa's workshop, and a model train exhibit. There's also plenty of food and shopping available, making it the perfect destination for a winter day out.
The Ice Castles attraction in Utah is one of the most popular winter tourist destinations in the country. Every year, people from all over flock to see the elaborate ice sculptures and frozen slides that are set up in a different location each year. While this amazing winter experience won't open for the season until the new year, in January 2023, the Ice Castles will be set up in Midway, Utah, and is expected to be even more popular than ever before.
Millcreek Commons is the largest outdoor ice skating rink in Utah, and it’s a popular spot for wintertime fun. The rink is open from November to February, and during that time you can enjoy ice skating, sledding, and playing in the snow. In addition to the recreational activities, Millcreek Commons also features a fire pit where you can warm up after a day of fun in the cold.
If you're looking for a festive way to spend your December evenings, the Nutcracker at Ballet West is the perfect option. This performance has been enchanting audiences in Utah for years, and it's easy to see why. The dancers are incredibly talented, and the set and costume designs are absolutely gorgeous. Plus, there's something special about watching a classic Christmas story come to life on stage. If you're looking for a unique holiday experience, be sure to check out the Nutcracker at Ballet West!
Every year, the city of Salt Lake comes alive with Christmas lights. The most popular spot for viewing them is Temple Square, where the Mormon temple is located. The square is decked out in a dazzling display of holiday cheer, and it's a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike. In addition to the beautiful lights, there are also performances by carolers and choirs, as well as a Christmas market where you can buy gifts for your loved ones.
